Two of Brevard County's public schools were named among the Top 10 best in Florida according to the 2019 U.S. News and World Report list. Making the list were Brevard County's West Shore Jr./Sr. High School in Melbourne and Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School in Merritt Island. West Shore came in at number 6 of all Florida High Schools and Edgewood was just behind at number 10. Both of these schools boast perfect graduation rates and are usually found on the list of Top 10 schools in the state. Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High also make the list, ranking among the top 50, at number 39.

In other school news, it was just announced that Viera will be getting a new elementary school. With groundbreaking scheduled for this fall, the hope is that the new school will be completed and ready to open in August 2020. With 54 classrooms in 125,000 square feet, the school is expected to enroll about 500 students the first year with capacity for 970 students total. The school will be located just west of I-95 south of Wickham Road, near Stadium Parkway.
